Conclusion:

The 48-96 is uniquely and ideally suited for those firefighters who have families, work overtime, attend classes, drive significant commutes, or would just like 5 four-dayers each month. This highly efficient schedule provides for more “quality time” at home with the family, more full weekends off, and more money back in the pockets of firefighters.

And according to this committee’s research, of the many departments that tried the 48-96 schedule for a trial period, all but one voted to permanently adopt the schedule at the end of that trial.
